Hartford On The Big Screen

Wednesday, Sept. 13
September 7, 2006

On May 20 and 21, 30 teams fanned out across Hartford, each armed with a single-use video camera, and filmed whatever images struck their fancy. They could tell a story, expound on a theme or just randomly film intriguing images. Then they turned in their cameras.

"LoResFest," which organizers hope will become an annual event, was born.

Wednesday will see the result of their efforts, as "LoResFilm," the feature-length final cut of all that footage, will be shown at Charter Oak Cultural Center.

Helder Mira and Luis Cotto, founders of the Capitol Cinema Collective, who also founded the Kino Kafe film series at La Paloma Sabanera coffeehouse-bookstore, did the editing. Mira and Cotto say that proceeds from the event will go toward what they hope will become the first Hartford International Film Festival in November.

Admission is $25. Each person who helped make the film will get a free DVD. The screening is at 7 p.m. The Center is at 21 Charter Oak Ave. in Hartford. For details, call 860-978-8383.
